In the Promise project, we evaluate the use of eye-movement perimetry for ophthalmic diagnosis and visual rehabilitation. Promise is a collaboration of the UMCG, Royal Dutch Visio, RUG and Reyedar. It is sponsored by Novum and Uitzicht (via grants of ANVVB, Oogfonds, LSBS, and Stichting Blindenpenning for our GazeJoy subproject).

Scientific publications
Beyond perimetry: the SONDA method (Standardized Ophthalmic and Neuro-ophthalmic Asssessment) can be used for assessing various eye-movement-based biomarkers. We use artificial intelligence and other computer-based analyses to determine visual fields and these biomarkers The latter are useful for assessing e.g. various neurological diseases (such as Parkinson and Multiple Sclerosis). This use was published recently.
*Collaborations connected to the Promise project
- In the GazeJoy project, we specifically evaluate the use of a stereo-eyetracker for use with our stimulation method. The AnJer Pro stereo eye tracker has been developed by the Donders Institute, Nijmegen. GazeJoy is funded through Uitzicht via grants of ANVVB, Oogfonds, LSBS, and the Stichting Blindenpenning.
- We will also collaborate with Bulbitech, a Norwegian company that has developed the Bulbicam, which does eye-movement perimetry based on a different principle (saccadic reaction time). The UMCG has recently awarded us a grant to enable us to purchase the Bulbicam.
- The European Union has funded our OptiVist training program, in which our methods will be used in various projects (e.g. evaluation of children, and Paralympic athletes).
