The eye exam of the future?

Can an eye exam become literally as simple as watching a movie? In a recent paper in the Journal of Vision, Birte Gestefeld and colleagues show that the idea is perhaps not that far fetched. Based on the eye-movements made by participants watching movies while we simulated a visual field defects, Birte could fairly accurately determine what problem was simulated (it was simulated on the monitor screen). This opens up the possibility of much simpler forms of screening for eye problems in the future. Want to know more? You can find the paper here.
